Long ago, ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, and ShadowClan roamed free through the forests and marshes, rivers and moors. It was not long after the Great Journey from one home to another that a cat was cast out of the Clans. He had tried, and failed, to take over the forest in the pawsteps of his father, but was found out and defeated. The Clans knew the danger of letting him live, but they felt that blood could not be spilled needlessly. Little did they know that on that day of judgement, the fate of all the clans was laid out.
Angered, the cat fled forests and, for many moons, traveled alone. He roamed far and wide, his heart twisted with hate and mind buring with vengeance. He made allies and obtained a vast knowledge. He took a mate and they had a litter of strong kits. One kit, as black as the night with eyes like living embers, was always the strongest and as soon as he could open his jaws, he killed his siblings. His parents knew then that he was a born killer. His father taught him all he could before he left at the head of his small army. He led them against the clans, expecting victory, but had underestimated their pride, loyalty and determination to keep their home. His cats were defeated and he was killed. When his son heard of this, he swore an oath to avenge his father.
The son trained among the best and swiftly climbed to the top, until his name was murmured in fear all across the lands. Like his sire, and his sire's sire, he created a huge army through death and treachory and blood and at last was ready to strike.
For many moons the clans had lived in peace, oblivious to the growing threat outside their borders. They hunted and prospered and as the years passed, they began to forget about the traitor of long ago. It was then that the cat struck and for three long and bloody days, they fought, a writhing mass of fangs and fur and bloodstained snow. At last, the rogues proved victorious by sheer numbers.
Climbing onto a pile of his enemies bodies, the leader of the rogues yowled for the remaining cats to leave, banishing them from their home as they had done to his father. He was sure they would die out in the unknown lands, since the warrior cats had become soft in their prospering.
But the spirit and instinct of their warrior ancestors burned still within them and they fled for the mountains, where they knew they would not be pursued. They could not use the names of the old clans, for they brought with them dark memories and deeds. Instead, they became four again; IceClan, SleetClan, FrostClan, and SnowClan. They grew more and more and molded themselves and their kits to the ways of the mountains. In time, the bloody memories and tales of the forest disapeared and they forgot their old home; the mountains were all they knew now. But a prophecy has come, and all Clans must listen...
